Construction Code Consulting
The firm provides professional consulting in Building Code, Fire Code, Life Safety Code, Land Use, and other governmental regulations. By working as an early team member, projects can be easily shaped so they are code compliant before commitments are made regarding siting, size, construction types, and overall design parameters. Collaborating with the design professionals during the design development phase ensures that floor layouts, exiting and fire protection issues are appropriately resolved before moving on to construction drawings.
The firm also performs due diligence inspections relating to life safety. This helps owners (or prospective buyers) understand existing compliance issues and their impact on future renovation or redevelopment.
Hal Caton has retired from his practice as a Registered Architect in the states of Texas and Washington. He is no longer employed as a Building Official where he was designated as a Certified Building Official by the International Code Council. He has over 40 years of experience in writing, interpreting, and consulting regarding building codes.
Permit Management
The firm shepherds projects through the governmental plan review and permitting processes. By being well-prepared, pro-active communicators, and by maintaining working relationships with regulatory officials, innovative approaches to resolving problems can be proposed and well received for consideration. Our knowledge of review and processing requirements helps owners establish realistic project time frames. Our Project Manager, Carla Houser, is a graduate architect and has over 20 years of experience with permitting.
